Ecological Management Plans

Knowing the ecological status of your piece of nature is the first step to becoming a steward of the land. Once existing conditions are documented, a plan can be developed to preserve and enhance both the health of your property and your enjoyment of your land. EcoMedic will conduct an ecological assessment of your property and develop a plan that will guide you in the management of your land. This plan will provide a basis for any permits or funding applications required.

Managed Forest Tax Incentive Program (MFTIP Landowners who apply and qualify for the program will have their property reassessed and classified as Managed Forest at the Regional Assessment Office. Managed Forest land is compared to local farmland where its assessed value is based on its productivity. The Managed Forest land is then taxed at 25 per cent of the municipal tax rate set for residential properties.

Permits and Financial Incentives
Permits are usually required from your local Conservation Authority, Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and/or Federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans for work in or around water.

EcoMedic will complete applications to obtain permits.

In many jurisdictions financial assistance is available from government agencies for ecological improvements to shorelines, streams, ponds, wetlands and woodlands as well as environmental farm projects.

For example, many Conservation Authorities have financial assistance of 50%, up to $10,000, to do shoreline erosion control and naturalization. Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources may supply trees and shrubs for naturalization planting. Also, land tax reductions may be available under the Ontario Conservation Land Tax Reduction program for protection of designated lands.

EcoMedic will assist in the application to these and other available assistance programs. We can also advise owners on registering a Conservation Easement on their property. This measure will control the land uses made of your property in perpetuity.
